Betta akarensis is a paternal mouthbrooder which belongs to the Betta akarensis group. Similar species would be all akarensis complex members and their identification is based upon the face stripes. The males are more intensely colored and males also have pointed dorsal and anal fins whereas the females are rounder. According to the International Betta Congress
B. akarensis pairs can be housed in a 10 gallon tank, groups should be housed in a 55 gallon tank or larger. It’s helpful that pairs be provided cover with caves and plants. In a pair or species situation it is possible that fry could be discovered in the tanks. Betta akarensis should have soft acidic water that is well filtered and the temperature should be kept at mid 70s F.
