If you choose the right filters, heaters, and accessories for your betta fish, they will be happy and healthy. If you only want to keep one betta fish, you don't really need filtration. But you'll still have to change the water every so often. Make a plan for yourself.

For your betta's home, you will need to buy a lid or top. Betta fish will sometimes try to jump when they are startled or scared, so you need to keep a roof over their heads.

If the temperature of the betta's water goes up and down, it will both stress the fish out and make it sick over time. Some decorations are another thing you can buy. I would suggest that you only use gravel and decorations from an aquarium store or the fish section of a pet store, since they won't hurt your fish.
