How long do Betta Fish (old name: Siamese Fighting Fish) live in captivity?
I have kept and bred literally thousands of Bettas and the typical life span I have seen and read is about 5 years with good care. I have had a few make it over 7 years, but that's really rare. Some have even been recorded as long as 10 years in labs.
All in all, in a filtered heated tank with proper water changes and good food expect about 5 years from a Betta.
ADDITION: To help insure a long healthy life for your Betta I would suggest you increase your water changes to 100% of the water once every 2-3 days and increase how much you feed him a bit. I would feed 3-4 pellets once a day and as many bloodworms as he will eat in 2-3 minutes once a day. Feed ing morning and evening would be best as well.
